A/N: For P100 prompt 699: It's life, but not as we know it. Er… I had this idea after the re-watch of episode 5 of season 3 and, well, I hope it you can figure out who’s speaking.


“Good news, he’s not technically dead. Bad news, he’s a mushroom. Suggestions?”

“We could bake the hell out of it?”

“No!”

“You disagree, Cutter? It’s just killed a man.”

“Who might still be in there. We can’t kill it without trying to reach him.”

“It’s life, Jim, but not as we know it.”

“Pardon?”

“Er…Star Trek, original obviously. There’s this novel, aliens ate people’s brains to gain their knowledge. McCoy figured out how to ‘kill’ them and let the eaten person take control.”

“This isn’t make-believe, Temple.”

“No, but that man could still be alive. We’ve got to try, James.”
