Lester watched the fireworks lighting up the night’s sky and mused that he would never understand human nature. How anyone could think the new year would herald anything but more of the same? In his experience, nothing ever change, people certainly didn’t.

His ex-wife would still be a money-grabbing shrew, his children little better, always after the latest technological gadget.

He would still have to deal with the minister making impossible demands on a shoestring budget, with explosion-happy soldiers, and as for Cutter…

That bloody, irascible, stubborn pain-in-the-arse…

That gorgeous man Lester knew he felt rather more than he should.
