Helen gritted her teeth and stepped into the milling herd which lay between her and her destination. She had to sidestep as one moved into her path, seemingly never noticing her.
She shook her head, wondering how many of them would survive what she’d seen, where she’d been. It amazed her that so many managed to survive their daily lives when they were so immersed in their own world, headphones blocking their hearing, gazes glued to their telephone screens.
It was if they were all blind to the wonders of the world surrounding them. Forever alone, even in the crowd.
