The first time James met Christine had been a disaster. He'd been late for a lecture and she'd been dashing to hers, the collision had been messy and tempers had frayed. The second time had been just as tense, even though it was supposed to be an apology for knocking her flying.

When James told his best friend, Rick had almost snorted his beer, clapped him on the shoulder and solemnly informed James he would either end up marrying Christine Johnson or they'd end up killing each other.

James stood over her empty grave and realised Rick had been correct.
