Helen was fuming when she left the meeting. Once again her ideas had been shot down without any of the bloody hidebound bastards even thinking there could be another explanation except the one they parroted so well. Not even Nick had stood up for her, clearly thinking her theories were crackpot.

Helen would show them, she would prove her theories beyond any doubt and then they'd crawl through broken glass to have her at their university. Helen smiled, she might even accept tenure there, once they'd grovelled enough.

As for Nick... he'd come around. He always did, in the end.
