James smiled as the elegant woman approached. “Lady Brocklehurst,” he murmured, kissing her cheek.
Their host glanced towards Blade. “You've certainly made this party memorable.”
James hoped he hadn't upset her, she was the other reason he attended these does. “Lady Brocklehurst, I apologise if...”
“Nonsense,” She waved a dismissive hand at the other guests. “These things are usually a dreadful bore, it makes a difference to have some decent entertainment.” She glanced at Blade again. “Oh, not you, my dear boy. Percy needed to be taken down a peg and it was a delight to watch. Bravo, James.”
