Lorraine was an expert at watching people without them realising, even with her gaze downcast to her notes.

She'd been given this assignment at short notice and her new boss hadn't impressed her. He was antagonising his peers and losing ground fast.

As she hurried to catch him up at the end, she caught the satisfied look on his face before he quirked an eyebrow when he noticed her noticing. “That went rather well.”

Lorraine blinked before smiling when she realised Sir James had manipulated his peers into giving him exactly what he'd wanted by giving up what he didn't.
