James swallowed and knew he had little time to make his plans before the creature found them. He knew he could not – would not – be able to escape, as his limbs shook and refused to support his weight.

However, the cub might still survive the encounter. James reached out and pushed the cub towards cover, hoping the animal would remember his training and freeze.

James wondered if he could make himself more attractive to any predator before the realisation hit that he was covered in blood. He doubted he needed a bigger advertisement that he was available as a meal.

Eeek! But is it definitely a monster or is there still a tiny, tiny, miniscule chance it might be Abby or some veggiesaurus? Very tense!

Yikes! That's the kind of sign nobody wants.

Great use of the prompt.

Meep! I do hope he's mistaken and it's the cavalry, not a predator!

I'm reading these all out of order - which is clearly very wrong! But do love the way you've incorporated the prompt.
