His every sense alert for danger, James cautiously followed the hunters who held Connor captive. A low growl sounded deep in his chest at the thought of Nick walking into danger beside him, but to leave his mate unprotected was unthinkable.

When the path led into a shadowy ravine, James glanced up at the rocky walls and snarled. However, no matter how much the wolf baulked at his actions, James wasn't going to leave one of his people behind.

It wasn't what packs did.

James paused at that disturbing thought, since when had Connor – any of them – been his pack?
