James smiled as he potted about the kitchen of his student flat. He couldn't do anything about the peeling walls or the damp smell, but he could cook Steff a wonderful meal.

He looked at the table and hoped the meal would make up for the ramshackle look of the setting – the plates didn't match each other or the cutlery and the flowers were in an old sauce bottle.

James sighed softly as he fingered the small box in his pocket. It wasn't much – all he could afford and then some – but Steff had stolen his heart.
