Primeval drabbles: Wanting

Taunt (Valentine/Anti-Valentine – 93)
Connor sighed as he collapsed into his chair and stared at the calender. He'd had so many plans for tonight. He had hoped to share a romantic meal with James ending in a kiss... maybe even going home with him.
He smiled as he spotted the handwriting on an envelope. James must have posted it before... he swallowed hard. They would find him, they had too.
He opened it... a strangled gasp sounded and he just stared at what someone – Ethan – had written in it.
Blood is red,
Pain is blue,
Lester's hurting
and screaming for you.
Offering Comfort (Betrayal – 7)
“Connor?” Burton called out as he knocked on Connor's door. “Is this... Connor, what's wrong?”
Connor shook his head, apparently unable to form the words to explain what had gone wrong, even as he almost crushed the card between his fingers.
“Let me see.” Burton easily plucked the card from Connor's nerveless fingers. “Oh, Connor, I'm so sorry.” He pulled Connor into his arms and rubbed a hand across his back. “There, there, Connor. Everything will be fine”
Burton smiled as Connor wrapped his arms around him, seeking comfort. Everything was going perfectly to plan. Connor would soon be his.
Timing Is All (Rescue – 203)
“Conn? Oh.” Abby's voice trailed off as she walked in on Connor and Burton. She smiled as Connor blushed and pulled free, wiping the tears from his face. Her smile died at the annoyed look on Burton's face. It looked to her like Burton was moving in on Connor when his boyfriend was missing, merely confirming her original impression that the man was a bloody bastard.
Right, time to get Connor away from him. “Conn? You're still coming home with me, yeah?”
Connor nodded, blushing slightly as he collected his gear. “Yeah.” He paused on the way out. “Thanks, Philip.”
Checking And Re-checking (Determination - 3)
Jess closed her eyes as she savoured the chocolate bar. Just a short break and then she'd run through the CCTV footage again. Now they had a location and time for Ethan, all she had to do was try to track him through the cameras.
She would find Ethan, and once she had him, they would find James. They had to. She couldn't bear the thought of them failing. Not now Connor and James had made a fresh start on their relationship.
Blinking the sleep from her eyes, Jess returned to her search with new determination. She would find James.
Gate Crashing (In The News – 220)
The intruder grinned at the shriek of an alarm as he dropped to the floor. It looked like security hadn't been improved in his time away. He turned and raised his hands at the approach of heavy booted feet, there was no point being blasted again – it had bloody hurt.
He grinned cockily at a familiar face. “No welcoming hug, soldier boy?”
Becker sighed and shook his head. “Danny Quinn. What are you doing here?”
Danny's expression sobered. “I heard about Lester. I want to help.”
“You know it's Ethan...”
Danny sighed and dropped his gaze. “I feared it was.”
Failed (Someone To Lean On - 186)
Becker sighed as he watched Danny refuse to meet his eyes. He understood how much it... hurt to fail someone you should have protected, someone who relied on you to be there for them. He knew Danny blamed himself for what had happened to his brother, Patrick – Ethan – just as Becker blamed himself for the deaths of Cutter and Sarah.
And now Becker had failed again. He had let Ethan kidnap Lester, he had let a cold-blooded killer hurt him. If it wasn't for Matt's support, Becker knew he would have given up. But Matt believed in him.
Planning (Fools Rush In – 89)
Matt ran a hand through his hair and stared at the building plans Jess had found for Ethan's lair. He needed to think, needed to plan – and not just the tactics. He had several members of his team who would charge into this situation without thinking: Danny for his brother, Connor for his lover, Becker for his guilt. Matt needed to make sure he had covered every possible outcome, and he knew he would miss one.
He nodded, finally satisfied with his plan. All he could do was his best, and hope someone looked after fools who rushed in.
Maybe Not All Was Lost (Big Brother – 110)
Ethan grinned as he noticed the ARC forces try to sneak up on him. Did they think he was a fool? If they did, he would make sure they regretted it.
His breathing hitched when a familiar face appeared on the screen. So, Danny had tracked him down once more. Still acting like the big brother when he had betrayed that role so many years ago.
He paused and glanced at the battered form of Lester. Was his brother here for him or for Lester?
Ethan crouched down beside Lester and smiled at his groan. Maybe not all was lost.
Imprisoned (Caged – 107)
James sighed softly as he lay imprisoned; frustrated that he was being held here against his will but too weak to even think of escape.
He wanted nothing more than to go home to his flat – hopefully cleaned and repaired after his unfortunate encounter with Ethan – and curl up in his own bed.
Preferably with Connor. Not that he was up to doing anything, but just being with Connor would make everything better.
He sighed again and glared at the IV drip attached to his arm. Instead he had to lie here alone in a lonely hospital bed.
